What is a living campaign?

A living campaign is a shared campaign setting for an rpg with a codified set of rules for the campaign that govern how to build and advance characters as well as how the campaign will handle rules elements of the setting. Campaign staff create, distribute, and manage new adventures in that campaign setting, allowing players all over the world to play their living character in the same campaign at various venues anytime, anywhere. New players are ALWAYS welcome. We'll have pregenerated characters available in case you aren't able to make one yourself.

Ashes of Athas (AoA)

Type: RPG - Living Campaign
System: D&D 4e
Experience: None required, some would help.
Materials: Pencil, Dice, You will need to either grab a pregenerated character on-site or make a level 3 AoA character in advance following the character creation rules in the AoA Campaign Guide.

Welcome to the world of Athas, where the crimson sun drenches a blasted desert landscape and savagery is a way of life.

Ashes of Athas is a continuing 4e D&D campaign set in the world of the Dark Sun campaign setting. PCs will take up the mantle of heroism in a grim world where simple survival cannot be taken for granted. At gaming conventions throughout the year, these heroes will shape the world of Athas while they grow in power and prestige - or die trying.

When we begin, your character has been asked to aid a secretive faction of the Veiled Alliance in the Free City of Tyr against an unknown assailant.

  • Live the Story - Ashes of Athas is a single campaign told in a series of Chapters, each at a large gaming convention (Currently D&D Experience, Origins, and Gencon). Your character will experience a coherent story of struggle and (hopefully) triumph in the Tablelands of Athas.
  • Play Together - Each Chapter consists of a set of 3 adventures set at a specific level - if you're just getting started, you'll make a character close to the current level of the campaign.
  • Change the World - Every chapter is part of an evolving story where *your* choices can change the world, and the efforts of *your* character determine the shape of future chapters.
  • Leave the Tolkien at Home - Ashes of Athas is a massive shared-world campaign set on the harsh world of Athas, a scorched desert where might rules and life is just another resource to exploit.

Living Forgotten Realms (LFR)

Type: RPG - Living Campaign
System: D&D 4e
Experience: For Heroic Tier (level 1-10) no experience is required.
For Paragon Tier adventures (level 11-20) D&D 4e experience required.
Epic Tier adventures (level 21-30) are for those well versed in D&D 4e and who have leveled an LFR character to 21+ by playing in the living campaign.
Materials: Pencil, Dice, You will need to start with a level 1, 5, 8, or 11 character built using the latest version of the LFR Campaign Guide (CG). You will need a completed character sheet (or pregenerated character provided on-site) and an adventure log. The latter can be found at the end of the CG.

Over 200 years have passed since Mystra, the goddess of magic, was slain and the Weave of magical leylines that held the world together was destroyed. In the years since, the Spellplague has ravaged the world, changing the way magic works and leaving many bearing strange spellscars (even the great Elminster of Shadowdale!) Abeir and other realms have new peoples and problems with them. As Netherese, Zhentarim, and Thayan agents plot and scheme, who will stand against them, against the petty thugs roving the countryside, and against the horrible plaguechanged monsters whispered about in the alleys of Waterdeep & taverns of Baldur's Gate and glimpsed among the ruins of Neverwinter? A living campaign for players of all skill levels that will determine the fate of Abeir-Toril.

LFR Battle Interactives (ADCP)

In addition to the LFR adventures being available all weekend, we are happy to provide two Battle Interactives this year. A battle interactive (BI) is a combat-intensive two-round adventure that features multiple tables all playing at the same time and working toward the same goal.

Much more information on what a Battle Interactive is can be found here.

The first is a final running of the 2010 BI, ADCP2-1 The Paladin's Plague. Running across slots 2 & 3, it is available for characters level1-17 and follows heroes hired by the theocracy of Elturgard to explore the local plagueland and battle the monstrous inhabitants there.

The second is our debut of the 2011 BI, ADCP3-1 Swarm of Chaos, running in slots 9 & 10 and available to characters level 1-20. Demon cultists have infiltrated Myth Drannor and the ancient land needs your help to stop their nefarious plot.

Apotheosis of Evil is the grand finale for a series of special convention events run in the "Lost Runes Saga." This is a defining chronicle within the Unending War setting, debuting both the setting and the Balance of Power rules. The former is a core setting withing SilverMeet Studios' OmniVerse cosmology - a huge innovation in RPG setting development that will ultimately involved dozens of settings and many of the greatest talents in the gaming world. The latter, Balance of Power, is a "mod" (in the computer game parlance) for the superhero rules set, ICONS (created by Steve "Mutants & Masterminds" Kenson and developed & published by Adamant Entertainment).

The Lost Runes Saga is a series of special convention event run over the course of the winter and spring of 2011, wherein 8 lost runes of Norse legend, crafted for Loki, have been rediscovered. They are being sought after for a ritual to raise none other than Adolph Hitler as the new Living God of Midgard (AKA Earth). The last two runes are dealt with in the scenario, Gateway and Gathering deals with the last two runes being discovered and the attempt to retrieve them, while the mega-event, Apotheosis of Evil, is the grand finale that culminates this huge event in the Unending War setting.

Players of previous events will be able to continue playing the heroes they played before, while new players are encouraged to join in for the final fight for the very fate of Earth against the rise of Hitler... as a god!
