From Tuesday 2nd October to 3rd October 2007
Trinity Bay State High School Library
Cnr Hoare and Eureka Streets, Manunda, CAIRNS
North Queensland
This is the only role-play gaming convention in Australia where the rainforest meets the reef. Since 2001, ReefCon has hosted premiere RPGA events right here in tropical Cairns. The convention mostly caters for Living Greyhawk events, but there are also a Tropical Smorgasboard Session where DMs get to host their favourite settings such as Living Arcanis and Iuz Adventures. There is also a costume dinner (Special Interactive) Living Greyhawk event on Wednesday evening. This is a one-off event and will not be repeated. Persons booked and attending Spring Revel are also welcome to attend the Special Interactive Dinner please book your place on the ReefCon website.
Entry Fee and DM Rewards
Entry fee into the convention is a flat $20 no matter how many games you play. The costume dinner is free to PLAY but it will cost you the price of dinner (around $35 per person). Persons attending Spring Revel Down Under are also welcome to come (and play) in the Special Interactive.
Anybody who DMs three (3) or more games for us gets in for FREE. There is also a rewards package for DMs. Every DM who DMs one (1) or more games for us gets a free box of D&D Miniatures. Please note, however, that sometimes we have more DMs than we need for a session, and that you may need to choose a game to play in that session (as opposed to DMing). Experienced DMs will always be chosen over inexperienced DMs. DMs will (usually) be 18+ years of age or older.
Any person who offers (and is approved) to do 2 or more sessions as Event Staff recieves a free box of miniatures. This includes offering to help set up the convention space, do food runs, or cook barbeques, etc.
The entry fee is paid at Registration (which is between 8am and 8.30am on Tuesday October 2nd). Registration takes place in the marshalling area which is in the School Library. If you cant make Registration, then you can pay Bruce Paris (the convention organiser) before you play your first game.
The fee goes towards paying for prizes and other convention conveniences (such as FREE tea, coffee, Milo and biscuits).
One thing: if you want free tea/coffee/Milo bring your own mug or cup. |

Venue/Lodging
Accommodation
ReefCon recommends staying at the Grosvenor Inn [Cairns City] (07 4031 8588). This is a 4 star motel with reasonable rates. It is fairly close to the venue (though not waking distance), and also close enough to the city (if you like some night life).
There are several cheaper motels/hotels in the Manunda, Westcourt, or Manoora suburbs if that is your wish. |

Transportation
Getting To the Convention
Parking is available in the school car park. The entrance to the car park is off Eureka Street, Cairns.
The school is 3 minutes by taxi from the Cairns Train Terminal, and 7 minutes by taxi from the Cairns Airport. There is no reliable bus service, unfortunately.
The Library is to the LEFT of the CARPARK (if you are facing the ADMINISTRATION block). J Block and C Block (Gaming Rooms) are next to the Library. |

Prizes
This year, prizes will be sets of Wizards of the Coast Miniatures, as well as other nice goodies supplied by our sponsors (Hasbro and Paradigm).
At the end of every game, the DM will judge the two best players at the table. Best play involves good role-performance of characters, as well as problem solving and having a sense of fun and fair play.
Those names will then go into a barrel and be drawn out on Wednesday afternoon at the 1.30pm prizegiving ceremony. If you are not present at the prize-giving ceremony, then you cannot receive a prize (if your name is drawn out). One prize per person drawn. If your name is drawn again, then someone elses name is drawn.
Food and Drinks
Coffee, tea, Milo and biscuits will be provided at the convention FREE of charge.
Make sure you bring a cup or mug. There are washing-up facilities at the convention to keep things clean.
There is a Take Away Fish & Chips shop right outside the venue which sells soft drinks, chips, fish, pies, hamburgers, etc. My advice is to stock up before you come to your game.
If you have a car (or can walk really fast), there is a Pizza Hut nearby and a KFC. You will get about 30-45 minutes in-between games to drive out and get something.
If we can get it organised, we will have a barbeque on for lunch and dinner. These will not be free, but prices will be kept as low (e.g. non-profit) as possible. |
