Starting with a simple d6 die pool mechanic, this game intuitively builds on its core concepts, evoking a pitch and tenor in play uncommon in roleplaying games. It details solid, dramatic systems for task resolution, advancement, trials of belief, tests of nerve, searing social conflict, dangerous sorcery, miraculous faith, and brutal, gut-wrenching martial combat. Behind the dice, player decisions drive the game's systems. The choices tangibly affect every outcome, from glorious victory to ignominious defeat. The mechanics are presented in an easy-to-read writing style, with plenty of insight and advice from the designer. Even though it's been billed as "not backwards compatible", updating old adventures might be easier than you think. How do we make an interesting encounter group from a group of generic, cookie-cutter orcs? How do we make an XP budget when we're looking at hit dice instead of levels? How do we make sure that the feel of the adventure and the feel of the edition don't get in each other's way? In this seminar, we'll use the classic 1st Edition adventure Keep on the Borderlands as an example.

Shadowrun Demo Table (Shadowrun)
By Grungydan / Daniel Henson. Shadowrun Demo Table It's 2070, and the world has Awakened. First came the Megacorps. With one court decision, corporations gained extraterritoriality and the right to field private armies; they became the new governments. Then VITAS, the worst plague of modern day, struck down 25 percent of the world's population. Magic returned to Earth and brought with it UGE, or Unexplained Genetic Expression. The babies were called elves and dwarfs because that's what they looked like. Dragons reappeared. Weather patterns went out of control, earthquakes shook, and floods wreaked havoc. A few years later, Orks and Trolls came back to the world in another round of magical resurgence. The Matrix crashed, taking the world market and economies with it. Racism ran rampant, with anti-metahuman sentiment joining traditional race bias. A dragon was elected president and subsequently assassinated. Halley's Comet returned to Earth's neighborhood, bringing yet another upheaval of magic. Most recently, a radical Norse cult partnered with an outcast band of otaku and brought the old wired Matrix back to its knees, this time to be rebuilt in a new image: the wireless world. You’re a shadowrunner. The megacorps hire you when they need things done that they can’t or won’t do themselves. You’re a deniable asset, and as long as your skills are useful and you keep your edge, you’ll continue to be an asset. Demos running throughout the slot, so sign up or drop in!
