FAQ
If you cannot find the answer to your question below, search the blog. If you still haven't found an answer, join the discussion list (see the sidebar for details) and ask there.
Q: How do I register for an event site?
There is a Register to Attend button at the very top of the page,
just to the right of the fancy scrolly thing and to the left of the
login boxes. Click that to get to the registration page. If the button
is not clickable, then registration is not enabled for that event.
You can click the "Email the event organizer" link at the top of the
page to ask for more information.
Q: Why are my username and password not working?
There are a few possible answers to that question. The most likely one is
that you have not actually registered for the event site that you are
trying to log in to. You have to register separately for each event site,
and that means specifying a username and password for each.
If you are sure that you have registered for the event site already,
then it is possible something has gone wrong with your account. You
can click the "forget your password?" link just above the login boxes
to have your password reset and mailed to you. Alternatively, you can
click the "Email the event organizer" link at the top of every page
to ask the organizer to check your account.
Q: How much does it cost for me to have an event site?
Nothing. Warhorn.net is a community service, provided free of charge for
users and event managers. We do accept donations thought (see sidebar),
which help us fund new development.
Q: Does Warhorn.net require cookies?
Yes, logging into an event site requires that your browser is configured to
accept cookies.
Q: How do I use Paypal to accept attendee payments?
Just enter your Paypal account email address in the Paypal Email Address
box on the Event Setup screen, and a Paypal button will automatically
be included on the Pricing & Payment screen. When an attendee
clicks the button, he will jump to the Paypal site to begin the payment
process. Once the process is complete, he will be returned to your event site.
Q: What does it mean to "clear" an attendee?
Clearing an attendee makes him eligible to sign up for games. For those sites
using the payment features, an event manager will typically wait to clear an
attendee until payment has been processed. Sites not using the payment features
usually instead enable Automatically clear registrants for signup on
the Event Setup screen, which enables an attendee to sign up for games
as soon as he has registered. Of course, even if an attendee is cleared,
signup will be disallowed until Enable signup for cleared attendees has
been enabled in Event Setup.
Q: Can I print badges/tickets/envelopes from my event site ?
Warhorn.net provides two CSV (comma-separated value) exports that can
be imported into Excel or other spreadsheet programs, from which you
can easily create and print support materials. You can access the
envelope export and the ticket export by clicking links
above and to the right of the attendee report.
Q: How do I use different colors for my event site?
Warhorn.net has rudimentary skin support. By customizing a CSS (Cascading Style
Sheets) file and providing new header and button graphics, you can
integrate your region, campaign or club's look and feel. Unfortunately
there is no automated procedure for creating or testing a new skin,
but if you have some web design chops and want to give it a try, let us know and we'll give you the
details.
Q: Why are there no line or paragraph breaks in my custom text
areas?
The system does not automatically insert breaks for you; it requires
you to provide HTML markup to format your custom text. Whenever you
need a line break, insert this tag: <br>. When you want to double space,
use two of them.
Q: Is the event database backed up?
Absolutely. We take a full backup every night, so in the event that a problem
occurs, we will be able to restore from very recent data.
Q: Are you going to release the source code so I can host event
sites on my own server?
No, sorry. The source code is proprietary and not for
distribution. The upside is that the service is free, and we take care
of the administration and maintenance tasks for you.
