Partial service outage, April 3-8
Warhorn experienced a partial service outage from Friday, 4/3 through today, Wednesday, 4/8.
On Friday, warhorn.net's primary and secondary name servers were decommissioned. This occurred without warning in the middle of the business day. To make matters worse, the emergency contact email address for warhorn.net was at a domain that was also affected by the server outage. Therefore, I was not immediately able to update my domain name registrar's records to specify new name servers for the domain.
As soon as possible, I purchased warhorn.org and reconfigured the web server to serve the Warhorn site and deliver email using that domain rather than warhorn.net. I also began the lengthy bureaucratic process of proving my identity to the domain registrar so that I could update the contact info for warhorn.net and switch to new name servers. This process concluded today, and I was able to update the name servers in the late morning.
As of now, the Warhorn site is available at both warhorn.net and warhorn.org. You are free to use whichever you prefer for web browsing. The info and help email addresses are likewise available at both domains, but the announce and discuss mailing lists do not have warhorn.org equivalents.
You all have my apologies for this outage. This was an unexpected event that occurred due to my reliance on free name service hosting. I have since moved to a professional name service provider. Furthermore, I have plans in the works to move web and email services to a professional hosting provider, which should greatly improve reliability and performance.
Thanks for your patience. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
